IN-LAW CONVERSION
As a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist we were able to meet the needs of our client on this Design / Build project by converting their existing 2-car attached garage into In-law quarters for their 80 year old Mother and Father.
The Owners wanted this conversion to include separate living quarters with a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom with a separate entry and use of the family laundry room on the 1st floor. To complete the list they wanted a new 3-car garage added to the front of the residence and a new front entry portico.
By adding a 14' x 14' extension to the garage, for their parents bedroom, the balance of the existing garage was sufficient to include a 14' x 16' living room, a 6'x 8' bathroom and a 10' x 16' fully functioning kitchen.
All interior doors were 3' in width to allow for their parents moderate mobility. The bathroom included a low profile shower and seat with a hand-held shower head.
The new garage allowed access to the conversion via 24" deep steps allowing the parents to utilize a walker during entry.
